Moa Valley Farm is located by the banks of the Moawhango River in the central North Island of New Zealand. It is the collaborative venture of Rita Batley and Vanessa Witt, established in 2020. Together we are taking on the challenge of rejuvenating a tired farm paddock and turning it into a fertile place to grow garlic and other crops. We are experienced gardeners with qualifications in agriculture and horticulture and an interest in permaculture and regenerative farming practices. Our aim is to encourage healthy and diverse soil life to support the growth of nutrient dense food.
Our garlic is primarily grown for eating. 'Seed' garlic requires different treatment and grading from culinary garlic. Our strength is being able to grow good food using organic principles, without the need for synthetic fertilisers and sprays. We grow a range of different garlic types, including Turban, Creole, Asiatic, Artichoke, Marbled Purple Stripe and Silverskin. Our Facebook page has regular updates about how we are growing our garlic.
